CODE OF CONDUCT
Our discipline policy has been established in conjunction with the philosophy of Catholic education. As Christian educators, we believe that every child has the ability to learn and should be free to be educated in a Christ-centered atmosphere. This environment is one which promotes mutual respect and is conducive to growth and learning. Such an atmosphere affirms, supports, and witnesses to a loving faith community. Therefore, the child's expected behavior should be a reflection of self-worth and one's respect for others. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES An appreciation for the opportunity of a Catholic education Reverence during times of prayer, openness and effort in learning the Catholic faith, and in building Catholic leadership An attitude of service to others Respect for the rights of the classroom teacher and fellow classmates to help promote an atmosphere that is conducive to teaching and learning Personal responsibility for learning Cooperation, consideration, and respect for self and others in speech and actions Honesty and integrity in personal relationships and school work; appropriate behavior Good study habits that lead to life-long learning, effort, self-confidence, punctuality, completeness and quality of assignments and class work Self-care and personal grooming Regular attendance CONSEQUENCES Consequences for behavior which fails to meet these expectations may include but are not limited to the following: Student conference After-school detention Parent phone call Parent conference Office referral Loss of playground/cafeteria privileges Loss of out of uniform day SERIOUS VIOLATIONS Serious violations for which the principal may suspend or expel a student include the following: Physical abuse of any kind including hitting, kicking, biting or pushing another student or staff member Use, possession, transmission, or sale of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons Truancy or unauthorized leaving of school property Use of vulgar or obscene language or gestures Verbal abuse of other students or staff Defying a person in authority or interfering with a teacher's conducting of class Endangering the safety of others Vandalism, stealing, or destruction of property CONSEQUENCES FOR SERIOUS VIOLATIONS Teacher intervention Teacher/parent and/or student conference Referral to the principal Suspension Expulsion ELASTIC CLAUSE Because it is impossible to foresee all problems which may arise, the administration may take disciplinary action for behavior which violates the spirit and the philosophy of the school even though not specified in this code of conduct.
