Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Saint Rose Academy located? We are lease-purchasing a building at 6218 Hospital Way, Douglasville, GA 30134. behind the Douglas County Bank on Fairburn Rd. We chose this location to be as convenient as possible to the people from the Douglas, Paulding, and West Cobb areas, as well as being close to I-20 for those who travel to work into and around Atlanta. From Hwy 92 north, take a right on Courtland St. after the bank and turn right on Hospital Way across the street from the Douglas County Senior Center. What is the tuition rate? Our mission states that we want to provide a quality Catholic education at affordable an affordable rate. A monthly payment plan is available through the FACTS management company. There is a 4% discount if tuition is paid in full before the deadline established each Spring. Tuition assistance is available and requires an application through a separate department of FACTS. This information is available in the Tuition Assistance section of our home page. What are Seton and SACS? Seton is a Catholic curriculum established in Arlington, VA. It is currently used by several Catholic schools across the country as well as over ten thousand Home School students. SACS stands for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and is an accreditation program that ensures a quality education for our children. Accreditation is not required for schools before high school but has become the standard in private school education. Saint Rose Academy wants to ensure that our students receive the highest quality education possible to prepare them for their future high school and college careers, so we are starting with a SACS accredited curriculum and will continue to move towards seeking SACS accreditation for Saint Rose Academy. My child is not Catholic; is he eligible to enroll at Saint Rose Academy and will he be required to attend religion classes? Saint Rose Academy welcomes children of all faiths. One of our primary reasons for opening Saint Rose Academy is to educate our children in the Roman Catholic faith. Catholicism is interwoven into the curriculum. We would hope that your child would come to appreciate our faith as well as the many others that will be discussed. It is our goal to assist parents in the moral upbringing of their children, not to replace the role of parents and their responsibilities. Are your teachers certified? Our kindergarten through 8th grade teachers are Georgia certified, and hold Bachelor's degrees at minimum, and three hold Master's Degrees.
What are your school hours? School hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00pm for the 2010-2011 school year. Do you have a school calendar? We will follow the Douglas County school schedule as closely as possible, understanding that you may have children still in the public system. However, we are a school in the Catholic tradition, so we will also follow the Liturgical Calendar including Holy Days of Obligation and religious holidays. My child is in the gifted program in his current school. Do you have a gifted program? No, we do not have a gifted program established at this time. Most Catholic schools in the area are only now beginning to look at gifted programs. Our teachers will be responsible for helping to establish additional programs that will engage and challenge all the students in the class. Our math and reading programs can be designed to meet the individual needs of the students rather than the whole class. Being a school in the Catholic tradition, how often will my child have religion classes and attend Mass? Religion class is taught between 3-5 times each week depending on the grade. We have had the opportunity for weekly Mass as well as Communion services, adoration services, Penance services, Stations of the Cross and student-led services. Our faith is an integral part of every class day so that the students will come to know the fullness of their faith and be helped to live it on a daily basis. We both work, do you have an after school/before school program? We will offer early drop-off beginning at 7:15 a.m. for no charge. There is an fee based ASP program in place that we expect to continue next year. Please see After school section of our website for more information. Will my child have an opportunity to purchase a hot lunch? While there is a lunchroom in which your child will eat, Saint Rose Academy employs a catering service to provide a fee based hot lunch program to students. Milk and bottled water are also available for purchase daily, and we are exploring options for other lunch possibilities. Your family will need to provide a lunch and snack for your child daily or purchase a lunch in advance each month. Will our family be expected to volunteer at the school? Is there a break on tuition if we volunteer? Yes. We expect all families to volunteer to help at the level at which they are able. We have a variety of opportunities to choose from each year. Please refer to the menu item entitled "Your Time and Talent" for more information. If a family cannot volunteer a minimum of 50 hours during the school year then it is expected that the family pay a $500 volunteer fee for the 2010-2011 year. This fee is due before the school year begins. Does the school require a certain level of fundraising from each family? No. We expect all families to participate in our fundraisers at the level at which they are able. Fundraisers are necessary to keep independent schools operating because we do not receive any assistance from the local churches or the Archdiocese. Please contact the school office to see where you can help. How is the school administered? Who is making the decisions? Saint Rose Academy has been established as a 501 c(3) non-profit corporation overseen by a Board of Directors. The school currently has a Dean of Students who is responsible for educational philosophy, faculty oversight, student life and discipline. The Dean of Administration is responsible for oversight of admissions, budget, grants, marketing, accreditation procedures, and general office details. An Office Manager assists in the daily operations. The Board of Directors, as well as the officers, are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for their work efforts. New Board members will be appointed as old members rotate off the board as prescribed in our Incorporation By-Laws. The by-laws are available for review upon request, and copies of the by-laws are available at the school office.
